Neuropathy is the most common neuromuscular disorder. It effects 2-5% of the population.

Although very common in diabetics, many other conditions cause neuropathy; such as cancer treatment, and use of mood-altering medications such as anti-depressants, and anti psychotics. Neuropathy usually presents with numbness and tingling in a “stocking and glove” pattern in the feet and hands, and then progresses to burning and pain.

 

In advanced stages of neuropathy, numbness and complete loss of sensation can occur. Thus preventing the sufferer from identifying temperature differences in their extremities, pressing the correct pedals of a car, holding simple items, typing or even walking correctly. Many patients are virtually incapacitated by the side effects of the medications used to treat neuropathy.
